“We continue to be active in promoting a supportive, inclusive and accepting environment for all citizens in our community. We are consistently looking at how we can better service the people we support – this is our constant focus.”

SUPPORTING A MEANINGFUL LIFE
Community Living Thunder Bay (CLTB) was built on the conviction that people with intellectual disabilities have the right to access all opportunities in the community, whether recreational, education, employment or social. CLTB’s wide range of support services are geared to Thunder Bay community members of all ages, and are designed to enhance dignity and quality of life. The organization focuses on each individual’s strengths, needs and choices, never wavering from its vision of an accepting community that values all citizens equally. CLTB has partnered with eSSENTIAL Accessibility to provide assistive technology, free of charge, to members and allies, to support their participation in the community – because that’s where everyone belongs.
At CLTB, individualized service plans are tailored to the needs and wishes of each person. They may take the form of 24-hour assistance or periodic visits. Services might include personal care at home, or help to attend classes or recreational programs. The range of services may be broad, but they all have the same goal: to enable people with intellectual disabilities to share in all elements of living in the community and participate effectively.
CLTB’s supported employment team assists people with intellectual disabilities to participate in the paid work force, a summer job or a meaningful volunteer position. One-on-one meetings are held to establish each person’s interests, abilities and career goals. Additional services include skills development, job preparation such as resume writing and interview techniques, on-the-job coaching and training, as well as ongoing support and follow-up to maintain employment.
